The tea ceremony (茶の湯 cha-no yu), “the way of tea”, “the art of tea” (茶道 sado:, chado:) is a ritualized form of the joint reception of matcha tea, created in the Middle Ages in Japan. The tea ceremony emerged as a form of Buddhist monks’ meditation practice and has become an integral part of Japanese culture.
